Trou aux Biches and Mont Choisy sit side by side on the north-west coast, the calmer, family-and-couple answer to Grand Baie about 7 km up the road. Trou aux Biches, an old fishing village turned beach resort, has one of the island's best snorkelling lagoons; Mont Choisy is a long, filao-shaded beach of nearly 3 km with no shops or restaurants on the sand. The airport transfer is about an hour and a quarter.
Indian passport holders need no advance visa: entry is granted free on arrival. Every traveller must complete the official All-in-One Travel Form before boarding. One Mauritian rupee is worth about two Indian rupees.
The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden at Pamplemousses, founded in the 18th century, is in the same district: MUR 300 for foreign visitors, open 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, famous for giant water lilies. Allow at least two hours. Turtle Bay, just south, is good for spotting marine life in shallow water, and the Maheswarnath Mandir in Triolet is one of the island's best-known Hindu temples, a reminder of how much of Mauritius traces its roots to India.
Where to stay
Grand Baie's restaurants and nightlife are a short drive away from any of these.

Trou aux Biches
Beachside hotels, restaurants and small shops, with the protected lagoon at the door for snorkelling.

Mont Choisy
The quieter stretch just north, with a long, shaded beach and no restaurants on the sand. Best for long, undisturbed beach days.

Pointe aux Piments
A little further south and quieter still, close to Turtle Bay and its marine park.
Paying in Trou aux Biches
For the rupee itself, entry rules for Indians, the tourist fee and how much cash to carry, see the Mauritius travel guide.
Resorts take cards; beach vendors, small shops and tips need cash, so keep a modest rupee float. Hotels also collect the €3 a night tourist fee for guests aged 12 and over.

Common mistakes in Trou aux Biches
Reading Mauritian rupee prices as Indian rupees
One Mauritian rupee is worth about two Indian rupees, so a MUR 500 menu price is closer to ₹1,000 than ₹500.

It is separate from the visa and mandatory for every traveller before boarding. Fill it in on the official safemauritius.govmu.org portal a few days ahead.
Planning a Mont Choisy day around lunch on the beach
There are no restaurants on the sand. Eat in Trou aux Biches or bring your own.
Trusting an old Botanic Garden price
Foreign-visitor entry rose to MUR 300. Older blogs still quote less.
