“You buy at” is the rate you pay when buying foreign currency from us. “You sell at” is what we pay when you sell leftover currency back. Rates are indicative and are locked when you confirm an order.

How our rates work

Where the rate comes from

Every rate on this page starts from the live interbank market — the same reference banks use between themselves — and is refreshed through the trading day.

Notes vs transfer

Currency notes and money transfers are priced differently. Physical cash carries handling, insurance and logistics costs; a wire transfer does not.

When rates change

Currency markets move continuously on weekdays. Weekend rates are indicative and settle against Monday's opening. The rate is locked the moment you confirm an order.

What you pay on top

GST on foreign exchange is charged per RBI slabs, and TCS may apply on remittances above the annual threshold. Both are shown before you pay — never added afterwards.

Need a better rate?

Sending a larger amount, or buying for a family trip? Rates on this page are our standard live rates — on bigger orders we can usually do better. Tell us what you need and a dealer will come back with a live quote.

Live rate FAQs

What is today's USD to INR rate?

The live US Dollar rate is shown at the top of this page. Buying and selling rates differ slightly — the table above shows both.

How often do these forex rates update?

Rates are pulled from the live interbank market and refreshed through the trading day. Foreign exchange markets trade around the clock on weekdays, so the rate you see in the morning is rarely the rate at close.

Why is the buy rate different from the sell rate?

The buy rate is what you pay to get foreign currency; the sell rate is what we pay to take it back. The gap covers handling, insurance and the risk of holding physical currency — it is how currency exchange works everywhere.

Can I lock today's rate?

Yes. The rate is locked when you confirm your order, and stays locked through delivery — even if the market moves against it in the meantime.

Are money transfer rates better than currency notes?

Usually, yes. A transfer moves money electronically, so it avoids the handling and logistics costs attached to physical cash.

Is Matrix Forex authorised to deal in foreign exchange?

Yes. Matrix Forex is an RBI-authorised dealer (Category II), regulated under FEMA.
