Buy Japanese YenOsaka in three days
Osaka is Japan's kitchen, and it knows it. The city runs looser and louder than Tokyo or Kyoto, built around street food, neon and a genuine local pride in eating well without ceremony. Most visitors pair it with Kyoto on a Kansai loop, giving Osaka 2 to 3 days.
Two airports serve Osaka, and the difference between them is significant enough to plan around.
Kansai (KIX) handles the international long-haul traffic and is where most India-Osaka routes land. Itami is smaller, closer, and mostly domestic. The Nankai Rapi:t is the fastest, most direct route from KIX into Namba, the neighbourhood most visitors base themselves in anyway.
Day 1: Dotonbori and Namba Morning: arrive, check in, walk Shinsaibashi-suji. Midday: Dotonbori for lunch, takoyaki and okonomiyaki. Afternoon: Kuromon Ichiba Market for browsing and small bites. Evening: back to Dotonbori for the canal at night, the neon is genuinely better after dark.
Day 2: Osaka Castle and Umeda Morning: Osaka Castle and the park. Midday: subway to Umeda, lunch in the underground network. Afternoon: Umeda Sky Building for the observation deck. Evening: Shinsekai for kushikatsu dinner and the Tsutenkaku glow.
Day 3: A slower pace or a day trip Morning: Kuromon Ichiba again if it's a food-focused trip, or a subway ride out to Universal Studios Japan if that's the plan for the day. Midday and afternoon: whichever pace fits, Osaka rewards wandering more than a packed schedule. Evening: one more Dotonbori dinner before moving on.

Where you base yourself in Osaka changes the trip more than almost anything else. These are the areas that work for first-time visitors from India.
Namba/Dotonbori
Loud, central, walking distance to everything. Doubles around ¥9,000-16,000 a night.
Umeda
Polished, best Shinkansen and airport access. Doubles around ¥11,000-20,000 a night.
Shinsaibashi
Central, connects easily to Dotonbori. Doubles around ¥10,000-18,000 a night.

Paying in Osaka
Osaka sits between Tokyo's card-first ease and Kyoto's cash-reliance. Department stores, chain restaurants and hotels take cards without issue. The city's actual draw, street food stalls in Dotonbori and Shinsekai, leans cash more heavily. That's exactly where a first-timer is likely to be spending an evening.
Carrying a moderate cash float covers Osaka comfortably, more than Tokyo needs but less than Kyoto's temple-heavy days require.
7-Eleven ATMs around Namba and Umeda stations are the most reliable for foreign cards. Japan Post Bank ATMs are the backup.

Getting around
Osaka Metro's subway network covers the city well and is the backbone of most itineraries. A plain one-day Enjoy Eco Card runs ¥800 on weekdays and ¥600 on weekends and holidays, covering unlimited subway and city bus rides.
The bigger decision is whether to buy the Osaka Amazing Pass instead. It bundles unlimited transit with free entry to around 40 attractions, Osaka Castle, the Umeda Sky Building observation deck and a Dotonbori river cruise among the pricier ones. As of a recent price update, the 1-day pass runs ¥3,800 and the 2-day version ¥5,400, up from the previous ¥3,500/¥5,000.
The pass earns its cost back fast on a genuine sightseeing day. Osaka Castle alone runs around ¥600, the Umeda Sky Building deck around ¥1,500. Two or three paid attractions plus transit already clears the 1-day price. A lighter day of walking and eating, with only occasional subway rides, is better served by the plain day pass or single tickets.
An IC card (Icoca, Suica or Pasmo) works throughout Osaka too, and is the simplest option if you're carrying one over from Tokyo or Kyoto.
