Buy Japanese YenHiroshima in three days
Hiroshima carries obvious historical weight, and it also happens to run some of the cheapest serious sightseeing in Japan. The Peace Memorial Park and Museum anchor most visits, and Miyajima Island sits close enough to fold into the same trip. Most visitors give it 2 to 3 days.
Most visitors arrive by Shinkansen from Osaka, Kyoto or Tokyo rather than flying directly. Hiroshima's own airport handles mostly domestic routes plus a handful of international ones.
If your itinerary already runs Tokyo-Kyoto-Hiroshima on the Shinkansen, that's close to the exact route the 7-day JR Pass is built to make worthwhile. Check the Japan guide's transport section for the full math before buying one.
Day 1: Peace Memorial Park Morning: Peace Memorial Museum, allow the full 90 minutes to two hours it needs. Midday: walk the park, A-Bomb Dome, Cenotaph, Children's Peace Monument. Afternoon: lunch at Okonomimura, then Orizuru Tower if it fits the day. Evening: Nagarekawa or Hondori for dinner.
Day 2: Miyajima Island Morning: streetcar to Miyajimaguchi, ferry across, check the tide table before you leave your hotel. Midday: Itsukushima Shrine and the floating torii, lunch on the island, Miyajima's grilled oysters and momiji manju are the local specialties. Afternoon: the ropeway up Mount Misen if the weather cooperates, or a slower walk through the town. Evening: ferry back, a quieter dinner in Hiroshima.
Day 3: Castle, garden, and a slower pace Morning: Hiroshima Castle and Shukkeien Garden. Midday: a neighbourhood lunch away from the main tourist circuit. Afternoon: whichever part of days 1-2 deserves a second visit, or simply a slower walk through the city. Evening: leave room for a final Okonomimura visit or dinner in whichever district you preferred.

Where you base yourself in Hiroshima changes the trip more than almost anything else. These are the areas that work for first-time visitors from India.
Peace Park area
Central, close to the museum and streetcar lines. Doubles around ¥7,000-13,000 a night.
Hiroshima Station
Practical, Shinkansen and streetcar hub. Doubles around ¥6,500-12,000 a night.
Nagarekawa/Hondori
Livelier, restaurant-dense, still walkable to Peace Park. Doubles around ¥7,500-14,000 a night.
Miyajima Island
Quiet after the day-trippers leave, tide-dependent views. Doubles around ¥15,000-30,000+ a night.
Paying in Hiroshima
Hiroshima runs mixed, similar to Osaka. Hotels, department stores and chain restaurants take cards without issue. Okonomimura's stalls and Miyajima's smaller shops and food counters lean cash more heavily.
The Miyajima visitor tax specifically is worth planning for: ¥100, either automatic through an IC card tap at the ferry gate or added to a physical ticket at the pier, small but easy to be caught off guard by if you haven't budgeted for it.
7-Eleven ATMs near Hiroshima Station are the most reliable for foreign cards. Japan Post Bank ATMs are the backup.

Getting around
Hiroshima's streetcar (tram) network is the city's main transit, one of the most extensive in Japan. Flat fare of ¥220 per ride, tap in with an IC card (Suica, Pasmo, Icoca) or pay cash on exit.
For Miyajima, take the streetcar to Miyajimaguchi, then the JR Ferry or Miyajima Matsudai Ferry across, a 10-minute crossing at roughly ¥180-200 one-way. Since October 2023, a mandatory ¥100 Miyajima visitor tax applies on top of the ferry fare. It deducts automatically at the gate if you're using an IC card, or gets added when buying a physical ticket at the pier.
An IC card covers the streetcar, the ferry and most convenience stores across the city, the simplest single tool for a Hiroshima trip. No need for a separate day pass unless you're planning an unusually high number of streetcar rides. Single fares at ¥220 flat rarely add up to enough to justify one.
