FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the live AED to INR rate today?+
The live rate is shown at the top of this page and updates every few

seconds at the interbank rate. That's the rate Matrix Forex sells

dirhams at.
Is the UAE Dirham pegged to the US Dollar?+
Yes. The dirham has been pegged at 1 USD = 3.6725 AED since 1997. The

peg is maintained by the Central Bank of the UAE.
How does AED to INR move?+
Because the dirham is pegged to the dollar, AED/INR moves almost

entirely based on what USD/INR does. The maths is straightforward:

AED/INR equals USD/INR divided by 3.6725.
How many dirhams can I carry from India to the UAE?+
USD 3,000 equivalent in cash per trip from India, roughly AED 11,000.

The UAE requires declaration if you enter or leave with AED 60,000 or

more, which is a separate UAE rule that rarely affects normal

travellers.
Is there TCS on buying dirhams?+
TCS applies above ₹10 lakh per financial year across all your foreign

remittances combined. Most Dubai trips stay below this threshold and

have no TCS. Above ₹10 lakh: 20 percent on travel and family support, 5

percent on self-funded education and medical.
Should I exchange to dirhams in India or in Dubai?+
In India. Dubai airport and hotel exchanges typically have wider

spreads. Buying AED in India at the interbank rate from an authorised

dealer like Matrix Forex is usually 2 to 4 percent better.
Can I use Indian credit cards in Dubai?+
Yes, almost universally at hotels, malls, restaurants, and tourist

attractions. Expect a foreign currency markup of 2 to 3.5 percent on

Indian credit cards. A forex card avoids this markup.
Does Matrix Forex deliver dirhams across India?+
Yes, same-day to 21 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai,

Hyderabad, Pune, Ludhiana, Kanpur, Tirupur, Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad,

Navi Mumbai, Thane, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Coimbatore,

Secunderabad, and Zirakpur.
