FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the live SGD to INR rate today?+
The live rate is shown at the top of this page and updates every few

seconds at the interbank rate.
Why has SGD to INR gone up so much?+
SGD/INR gained around 11 percent across 2025. Singapore's monetary

policy tightening and broad rupee weakness against most major currencies

together pushed the rate higher.
How many Singapore Dollars do I need for a Singapore trip from India?+
For a 4 to 6 day Singapore trip, most travellers carry SGD 200 to SGD

400 in cash plus another SGD 500 to SGD 1,000 on a forex card. Budget

travellers manage on SGD 100 to SGD 150 per day; mid-range SGD 200 to

SGD 300 per day.
How many SGD can I carry from India?+
USD 3,000 equivalent in cash per trip, roughly SGD 3,800. The rest goes

on a forex card or via wire transfer.
Are Brunei Dollars accepted in Singapore?+
Yes, at par value under the Currency Interchangeability Agreement of

1967. SGD is also accepted in Brunei.
Is there TCS on buying Singapore Dollars?+
TCS applies above ₹10 lakh per financial year. Most Singapore trips fall

below this threshold. Above ₹10 lakh: 20 percent on travel, 5 percent on

self-funded education.
Should I tip in Singapore?+
No. Restaurants typically add a 10 percent service charge automatically

plus 9 percent GST. No additional tip is needed. Hotel porters

appreciate SGD 2 to SGD 5 per bag but it's optional.
Do I need an EZ-Link card for Singapore MRT?+
Not necessarily. The newer SimplyGo system lets you tap your contactless

bank card or phone directly at MRT gates. For short trips, this is often

easier than buying an EZ-Link. For longer stays, EZ-Link works at more

retailers.
