FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the live THB to INR rate today?+
The live rate is shown at the top of this page and updates every few

seconds at the interbank rate.
How many baht do I need for a Thailand trip from India?+
For a 5 to 7 day Thailand trip, most travellers carry ฿15,000 to ฿35,000

in cash plus another ฿10,000 to ฿20,000 on a forex card. Budget

travellers manage on ฿2,000 to ฿3,000 per day; mid-range ฿4,000 to

฿6,000 per day.
Is Thailand cash or card?+
More cash than card, especially outside Bangkok malls and major hotels.

Street food, tuk-tuks, taxis, markets, and small restaurants almost

always need cash. Cards work at malls, hotels, chain restaurants, and

major tourist attractions.
How many baht can I carry from India?+
USD 3,000 equivalent in cash per trip, roughly ฿95,000. Most Thailand

trips need far less than this.
Do I need to show cash at Thai immigration?+
Sometimes. Thai immigration occasionally checks that visitors have

฿10,000 per person (or ฿20,000 per family) in cash or equivalent,

particularly for visa-on-arrival entries. Carrying at least ฿10,000 in

cash on arrival is sensible.
Is there TCS on buying Thai Baht?+
Most Thailand trips fall below the ₹10 lakh TCS threshold. For tour

packages, TCS is 5 percent up to ₹10 lakh and 20 percent above ₹10 lakh,

but this applies to the operator's package payment, not cash you carry.
Should I exchange to baht in India or in Thailand?+
In India. Bangkok airport and tourist-area exchanges typically have wide

spreads. Buying THB in India at the interbank rate from an authorised

dealer is usually 3 to 5 percent better.
Can I use Indian credit cards in Thailand?+
Yes, at hotels, malls, and major restaurants. Expect a foreign currency

markup of 2 to 3.5 percent on Indian credit cards. A forex card avoids

this markup.
