FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the live SAR to INR rate today?+
The live rate is shown at the top of this page and updates every few

seconds at the interbank rate.
Is the Saudi Riyal pegged to the US Dollar?+
Yes. The riyal has been pegged at 1 USD = 3.75 SAR since 1986. Because

of this peg, SAR/INR moves in proportion to USD/INR.
How much SAR do I need for Umrah from India?+
Beyond your Umrah package (typically ₹85,000 to ₹1,80,000 per person),

most pilgrims carry SAR 1,500 to SAR 2,500 per person for daily food,

local transport, charitable giving, and incidentals. This is roughly

₹35,000 to ₹60,000.
How much SAR do I need for Hajj from India?+
Beyond the Hajj package, pilgrims typically carry SAR 2,000 to SAR 4,000

per person for the longer stay. Exact amounts depend on the package type

and whether food is included throughout.
How many riyals can I carry from India to Saudi Arabia?+
USD 3,000 equivalent in cash per trip from India, roughly SAR 11,000 at

current rates.
Is there TCS on buying riyals?+
TCS applies above ₹10 lakh per financial year. Most Umrah and Hajj

packages stay below this threshold. Overseas tour packages: 5 percent up

to ₹10 lakh and 20 percent above ₹10 lakh, but this is the operator's

collection, not on cash you carry separately.
Should I exchange to riyals in India or in Saudi Arabia?+
In India. Saudi airport and hotel exchanges have wider spreads. Buying

SAR in India at the interbank rate from an authorised dealer is usually

2 to 4 percent better.
Can I use cards in Saudi Arabia or do I need cash?+
Both. Hotels, malls, and major restaurants in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah,

and Madinah accept cards universally. Cash is preferred for charitable

giving at the Haram, small shops near religious sites, souvenir vendors,

and porter tips.
