Tsim Sha Tsui, or TST, at the tip of the Kowloon peninsula, is Hong Kong's main tourist district: more hotels than anywhere else, most of the city's museums, the shops of Nathan Road and the best views of the Hong Kong Island skyline across Victoria Harbour. The Airport Express stops at Kowloon station, 22 minutes from the airport for HK$105 by Octopus or card, a short taxi ride away.
The Star Ferry crosses to Central in about 9 minutes for HK$5 on the upper deck on weekdays and HK$6.50 at weekends, by Octopus or cash, and its harbour tours cost HK$230 by day and HK$280 at night. The waterfront promenade and the Avenue of Stars are free, and at 8 pm every night the Symphony of Lights plays across the skyline opposite.
The Hong Kong Museum of Art is free, except for special exhibitions, and closes on Thursdays; the Space Museum next door charges HK$10 for its halls, free on Wednesdays, and closes on Tuesdays. The old Clock Tower by the ferry pier is under scaffolding until late 2026. Kowloon Park is free and open from 5 am to midnight.
Indian passport holders can stay 14 days visa-free after the free online Pre-arrival Registration. Cathay Pacific flies nonstop from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, and Air India and IndiGo from Delhi. There is no sales tax, but most restaurants add a 10% service charge and hotels a 3% accommodation tax.

Paying in Tsim Sha Tsui
For the Hong Kong dollar itself, entry rules for Indians, Octopus and how much cash to carry, see the Hong Kong travel guide, and our guide to the Hong Kong dollar against the rupee.
Octopus or a contactless Visa or Mastercard pays on the MTR, including the Airport Express; RuPay is not on the MTR's list of accepted cards. A standard Octopus costs HK$200, including a HK$50 refundable deposit, and the Tourist Octopus sold at the airport costs HK$170, of which HK$128 is usable value. Common mistakes in Tsim Sha Tsui
Flying without a PAR slip
Airlines check the printed, signed Pre-arrival Registration slip at boarding and turn away passengers without one. It is free and usually approved instantly online.
Using street-side money changers
Rates vary widely from counter to counter. Sort your currency before you fly, and use bank ATMs if you need more.
Missing the 8 pm light show
The Symphony of Lights lasts about 10 minutes and is cancelled in typhoon or heavy rainstorm warnings. Be on the promenade a few minutes early.
Paying in rupees at the card machine
When a terminal or ATM offers to charge you in rupees, choose Hong Kong dollars. The rupee option lets the operator set its own rate.
