INR to OMR today

1 INR to OMR today

The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices on the global currency market. It is what Google and XE show. It is not what a bank or airport counter charges.

The Omani rial has been pegged to the US dollar at a fixed 0.3845 rial per dollar since 1986. Because of that peg, the OMR to INR rate moves almost entirely with the dollar to rupee rate. When the dollar strengthens against the rupee, the rial strengthens by the same proportion, on the same day. Independent rial-specific movement against the rupee is rare.

The fixed peg is also why 1 Omani rial converts to a comparatively large number of rupees. The rial is one of the highest-valued currencies in the world by face value, third only to the Kuwaiti and Bahraini dinars, so the INR to OMR number looks small even for a large rupee amount.

What it actually costs you

What 1 INR to OMR actually costs you

Most of the cost on an INR to OMR conversion is invisible, built into the exchange rate itself rather than shown as a separate charge. A provider quoting a rate with a wide markup over the mid-market rate does not label that markup on the receipt.

For families sending money to relatives working in Oman, or travellers converting rupees before a trip to Muscat, that markup compounds. On larger amounts, even a small per-rial markup adds up to a meaningful rupee figure.

There are typically three cost layers on an OMR conversion: the exchange rate markup built into the quoted rate, a transaction or service fee some providers waive above a threshold, and GST charged on the service component. Matrix Forex converts INR to OMR at the live interbank rate without a markup.

Ways to convert

Ways to convert INR to OMR

A bank wire transfer suits larger amounts, including remittances to family in Oman or property and business payments. Processing typically takes one to three working days, priced at the bank's own exchange rate plus SWIFT charges.

Online forex providers let you lock a rate online, then choose branch pickup or door delivery for currency notes. Because Oman is a smaller corridor than the UAE or Saudi Arabia, availability of Omani rial notes can vary by provider and city — confirm stock before you travel.

Cards are widely accepted across Oman for hotels, restaurants and larger retailers, so many travellers carry a modest rial float for taxis, small vendors and tips, and rely on an international card for the rest.

For last-minute Muscat trips or smaller amounts, branch cash exchange or a callback request is usually the fastest way to confirm what is available.

Tax and limits

Tax and limits on INR to OMR

Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, an Indian resident individual can remit up to USD 250,000 (or its rial equivalent) per financial year for permitted purposes — travel, education, medical treatment, family support, gifts and investments. LRS governs outward remittances only; money sent home by Indians working in Oman follows separate inward-remittance rules and is not counted against this limit.

TCS applies above ₹10 lakh per person per financial year, calculated cumulatively across all LRS purposes. Education funded through a Section 80E loan is at 0% TCS regardless of amount. Self-funded education and medical treatment are at 2% above ₹10 lakh. Other LRS purposes, including travel and gifts, are at 20% above ₹10 lakh.

TCS is not a final tax. It is adjusted against your annual income tax liability when you file your return.

Frequently asked questions

INR to OMR FAQs

What is the INR to OMR rate today? +
The INR to OMR rate updates through Indian market hours, moving with the US dollar to rupee rate because the rial is pegged to the dollar. Use the calculator at the top of this page for the current figure.
Why does 1 Indian Rupee convert to such a small number of Omani Rials? +
The Omani rial has been pegged to the US dollar at a fixed 0.3845 rial per dollar since 1986, which makes it one of the highest-valued currencies in the world by face value — behind only the Kuwaiti and Bahraini dinars. One rial buys roughly 2.6 US dollars, so a rupee amount converts to a comparatively small rial figure even though the underlying value is unchanged.
Rial or riyal — which spelling is correct for Oman's currency? +
Rial. Oman's currency is the Omani rial (OMR). Riyal, with a y, is the spelling used by Saudi Arabia and Qatar (SAR, QAR), currencies worth roughly a tenth as much. Both spellings are common in search and casual use, but Oman's official spelling is rial.
How many Omani Rials will I get for ₹10,000 or ₹1 lakh? +
At the current rate, roughly OMR 40 for ₹10,000 and roughly OMR 400 for ₹1 lakh, before any provider markup. The calculator at the top of this page gives the exact figure for your amount at today's rate.
Is TCS charged on converting INR to OMR? +
TCS applies above ₹10 lakh per person per financial year, with the rate depending on purpose: 0% for education funded by a loan, 2% for self-funded education or medical treatment, and 20% for other purposes including travel and gifts. TCS is adjusted against your final income tax liability, not an extra cost.
How much can I convert from INR to OMR in a year? +
Up to USD 250,000, or its Omani rial equivalent, per financial year under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme. The limit is shared across all LRS purposes combined, not per currency.
