a lane of heritage Peranakan shophouses just off the main Orchard drag, free to walk, a striking architectural contrast to the glass-and-steel malls right beside it. Several bars occupy the shophouses now, worth a stop for a drink even if the daytime walk-through is the main draw.

ION Sky (with a minimum-spend receipt)

technically requires spending S$20 in the mall, but functionally close to a free observation deck if you were shopping anyway, and one of the better skyline views in the city for the effort involved.

People-watching and window shopping

genuinely one of the better free activities on Orchard Road, the street itself is glossy and busy enough that simply walking it is worthwhile even with zero shopping intent, and the Christmas light-up each November through December is one of Singapore's most photographed seasonal events.
