Buy Swedish KronaMalmö and Lund at a glance
Malmö, Sweden's third city, sits across the Öresund Bridge from Copenhagen, with Lund and its 12th-century cathedral 12 to 17 minutes away by train. Copenhagen Airport is the real gateway: no flight from India lands in Malmö, and the Öresundståg train from the airport reaches Malmö C in 25 to 27 minutes. Buy the ticket in the Skånetrafiken app or at the machine first: none are sold on board.
Swedish police still check everyone entering from Denmark, at Hyllie, the first Swedish stop, on the platform or on board, so keep your passport with the Schengen visa in your hand luggage. No trains cross the bridge from 14:00 on 7 November to 14:00 on 8 November 2026.
City buses and trams in Malmö, Lund, Ystad and seven other Skåne towns take a tapped contactless Visa or Mastercard: SEK 32 for an hour, and never more than SEK 64 in 24 hours. Skånetrafiken does not say whether prepaid cards work, so keep a backup. Turistbiljett Skåne gives 48 hours of travel for SEK 299, and Turistbiljett Öresund, including the Copenhagen Metro, SEK 599.
Copenhagen prices everything in Danish kroner, which the Matrix Forex Card also carries. Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa: EUR 90 plus the VFS service charge at one of nine VFS centres in India, with a decision normally within 15 days, and Sweden asks for proof of SEK 700 for each day of the visit.
What to see and do
Malmöhus and the Kallbadhus are a walk apart in Malmö; Lund is 12 to 17 minutes by train, and Ystad, for Ales stenar, 51 minutes.

Malmöhus Castle
The 16th-century castle with Malmö Museum, an aquarium and the art museum: SEK 100 for the combined ticket, under-20s free. Closed on Mondays outside school holidays.

Ribersborgs Kallbadhus
The 19th-century wooden bathhouse at the end of a pier: a wood-fired sauna, then a dip in the Öresund. Entry SEK 90, with separate sections for men and women.

Lund Cathedral
A Romanesque cathedral whose astronomical clock, from around 1425, plays daily at 12:00 and 15:00. Free to enter; do not miss the crypt.

Ales stenar
A ship-shaped setting of 59 standing stones on a cliff above the sea, about 14 km south-east of Ystad, reached on a footpath from Kåseberga. Free.
Paying in Malmö and Lund
For the krona itself, the Schengen visa for Indians, cash limits and VAT refunds, see the Sweden travel guide, and the SEK to INR page for today's rate. Swedish kronor load on the Matrix Forex Card, and in Sweden a card that taps matters more than cash.
Cafés, museums and the cold-bath house take cards, and you will struggle to find anywhere that insists on cash. SEK 200 per person for the trip covers a market stall or a broken reader. Tipping is not expected; rounding up or 5 to 10% for good table service is generous. Load some Danish kroner if you plan a Copenhagen day.

Getting around
Pågatåg and Öresundståg trains need a ticket bought before boarding, in the app or at a machine; two or more people on one ticket get 25% off inside Skåne. Both cities are flat and easy to cycle, and a hire car is only worth it for Österlen.
Common mistakes in Malmö and Lund
Showing too little money for the visa
Sweden asks for SEK 700 for each day of the visit, not the SEK 450 older guides quote. A sponsor or host can cover it.
Packing your passport in the suitcase
Police check ID at Hyllie on trains from Denmark. Keep it on you.
Boarding the airport train without a ticket
Öresund trains sell no tickets on board. Buy in the app first.
Planning Malmöhus for a Monday
Malmö's museums close on Mondays outside school holidays.
