Fujairah is the only emirate entirely on the UAE's east coast, which means it faces the Gulf of Oman rather than the Arabian Gulf. That single geographic fact is why people come: clearer water, proper snorkelling and diving, mountains running straight down to the beach, and a pace nothing like Dubai's. One to two days is enough, and it is the classic UAE weekend drive.
Al Bidya Mosque is the emirate's landmark and the oldest mosque in the country, built around 1446 from mud brick and stone, with four domes resting on a single central pillar. Entry is free. It sits on the coast road north of Khor Fakkan, and it takes twenty minutes to see, which makes it an easy stop rather than a destination in itself.
The water is the real draw. Snoopy Island off Al Aqah beach is the best-known snorkelling and diving spot on this coast, reachable from the shore, and the resorts along Al Aqah are built around it. Inland, Fujairah Fort and the Friday market at Masafi break up the drive, and the wadis in the Hajar mountains are the reason to have a car.
Getting here is cheaper than people expect. The E700 bus runs from Dubai's Union Square to Fujairah for AED 25, roughly every 90 minutes from 5:30am to midnight, going via Sharjah and Masafi. By car it is about two hours from Dubai. Fujairah has its own airport (FJR) but very few passenger routes, so almost everyone arrives overland.

Fujairah divides between the beach strip in the north and the working city in the south.
Al Aqah
The resort beach strip opposite Snoopy Island, and where nearly every leisure visitor stays. Best for diving, snorkelling and a straightforward beach weekend.
Fujairah city
The emirate's capital and port, with the fort, the museum and the cheapest rooms. Practical rather than scenic.
Khor Fakkan
A Sharjah enclave on the same coast, with a dramatic corniche, an amphitheatre and a waterfall park. Worth a stop even if you sleep elsewhere.
Dibba
At the northern end of the coast, the launch point for dhow trips and the quieter diving sites toward Musandam.

Resorts and larger restaurants take cards, but this is the most cash-useful corner of the UAE in this guide series: the E700 bus, the Masafi market, small-town cafes and some dive operators all prefer it. Carry AED 300 to 500 and pay in dirhams when a card machine offers you rupees.

Getting around
The E700 bus from Dubai's Union Square is the budget route in at AED 25 each way, running roughly every 90 minutes from 5:30am to midnight via Sharjah and Masafi. It gets you to Fujairah but not along the coast, so it suits a single-base beach trip rather than a touring one.
Once here, a car is what unlocks the emirate. The coast road between Fujairah city, Al Aqah, Khor Fakkan and Dibba is one of the best drives in the country, and the wadis and mountain villages inland have no public transport at all. Taxis exist in town and thin out quickly outside it.
Common mistakes in Fujairah
Expecting Arabian Gulf water
Fujairah faces the Gulf of Oman, not the Arabian Gulf. The water is clearer and cooler and the marine life is better, which is precisely why the diving here beats the west coast.
Relying on the bus once you arrive
The E700 brings you from Dubai for AED 25 but does not run the coast road. Without a car you are committed to one beach, which is fine for a resort weekend and limiting for anything else.
Planning a long visit to Al Bidya Mosque
It is small and takes about twenty minutes. Treat the UAE's oldest mosque as a stop on the coast drive rather than a half-day in itself, and dress modestly since it remains in use.
Driving the mountain wadis in an ordinary car after rain
The Hajar wadis flash-flood and several tracks need proper clearance. Check conditions before leaving the tarmac, particularly in winter.
Assuming Khor Fakkan is in Fujairah
It is a Sharjah enclave on the same coast, which matters because Sharjah's rules apply there, including the alcohol ban.
