1 INR to NOK today
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices on the global currency market. It is what Google shows. It is not what your bank charges.
The NOK to INR rate moves on Norges Bank policy decisions and on crude oil prices. Norway is a major oil and gas exporter — when global oil prices rise, the krone typically strengthens. The currency is also influenced by the country's sovereign wealth fund flows and broader European economic conditions. Norway is in the European Economic Area and the Schengen zone but not in the EU or Eurozone.
The rate you see on Google is a reference number. The rate you transact at depends on who you buy from.
GST on the service component (tiered) + TCS above ₹10 lakh per FY apply per LRS rules. Disclosed upfront.
What 1 INR to NOK actually costs you
Here is where most travellers lose money on a Norway trip without realising it. A bank or counter quoting NOK at the mid-market rate plus a markup will not show that markup as a separate line item. It is built into the exchange rate.
Norway is among the most expensive travel destinations globally — fjord cruises, Northern Lights tours, hotels, and dining run high in Norwegian kroner. On a typical Bergen-Oslo-Tromsø trip, a family buys substantial NOK amounts. Even a small per-krone markup compounds into a meaningful rupee figure. Airport counters at Oslo Gardermoen and Bergen Flesland usually carry the largest markups.
There are typically three cost layers on a NOK conversion: the exchange rate markup built into the quoted rate, a transaction or service fee, and GST charged on the service component.
Matrix Forex sells Norwegian kroner at the live interbank rate without a markup.
Ways to convert INR to NOK
A bank wire transfer suits larger amounts for business payments or premium travel bookings. Processing takes one to three working days with the bank's exchange rate plus SWIFT charges.
Online forex providers let you book a rate online, then choose branch pickup or door delivery before departure. The booking locks the rate before payment.
Norwegian krone is not loadable on a forex card — NOK is not among the supported card currencies. Travellers typically carry NOK cash purchased in India before departure, and rely on international cards which Norway accepts widely.
Branch cash exchange remains the standard pre-departure option for Norway trips.
Tax and limits on INR to NOK
Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, an Indian resident individual can remit up to USD 250,000 (or its NOK equivalent) per financial year for permitted purposes — travel, education, medical, family support, gifts, and investments.
TCS applies above ₹10 lakh per person per financial year. Self-funded education and medical are at 5% above ₹10 lakh. Other LRS purposes including travel, gifts, and investments are at 20% above ₹10 lakh — relevant for premium Norway travel budgets that often cross the ₹10 lakh threshold for groups or extended trips. Education funded through a Section 80E loan is at 0% TCS regardless of amount.
TCS is not a final tax. It is adjusted against your annual income tax liability.
