Toronto, Canada's largest city, is where most Indian visitors land. This winter Air India flies nonstop from Delhi ten times a week and adds a Mumbai nonstop three times a week from 25 October 2026 to 26 March 2027, and Air Canada also flies Toronto to Delhi. Three days covers the waterfront, the markets and a museum; add a fourth for Niagara Falls.
The UP Express reaches Union Station in 28 minutes for CAD 9.25 if you tap a card, PRESTO or a phone (CAD 12.35 for a paper ticket). The cheapest route is the TTC 900 bus to Kipling and the subway, CAD 3.30 with a two-hour transfer, and licensed taxis charge a flat CAD 70 to the downtown core.
TTC readers take international credit cards and internationally issued Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard, but not ordinary foreign debit cards, and the TTC says nothing about prepaid cards, so a forex card may or may not tap through: carry a PRESTO card (CAD 4) as a backup. A fare is CAD 3.30 and a PRESTO Day Pass CAD 13.50.
The CN Tower costs CAD 47 plus HST (CAD 53.11), the ROM CAD 26 to 33 depending on the date, and the Toronto Island ferry CAD 9.57 return. Gerrard India Bazaar, on Gerrard Street East between Greenwood and Coxwell avenues, is the city's best-known South Asian street. Hotels add 13% HST and a 6% municipal accommodation tax. Indian passport holders need a visitor visa, applied for online: CAD 100 plus CAD 85 for biometrics at one of ten VFS centres in India, with a posted processing time of about 30 days. The eTA is not open to Indians, even with a US visa.
What to see and do
The CN Tower, Union Station and the island ferry are on the waterfront; St Lawrence Market is a short walk east, and the ROM a subway ride north.

The CN Tower
CAD 47 for an adult timed ticket plus HST (CAD 53.11), CAD 12 more for The Top, and EdgeWalk from CAD 199. The online-only Sea the Sky combo with Ripley's Aquarium next door costs CAD 79 plus tax.

St Lawrence Market
The Old Town's food hall, open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays, with a Saturday farmers' market from 5 am. The Distillery District's cobbled lanes are a short walk east.

The Royal Ontario Museum
Natural history, world cultures and art in the crystal-fronted building on Bloor Street: CAD 26 to 33 depending on the date, and free on the third Tuesday of each month from 4 pm to 8:30 pm.

Niagara Falls
A day trip by GO Train, which now runs seven days a week: a CAD 10 GO Weekend Day Pass, or the CAD 34 GO+WEGO combo with a day of buses at the falls. The GO station is in the north of the town, so take a WEGO bus to the falls.
Paying in Toronto
For the dollar itself, entry rules for Indians, sales tax and tipping, see the Canada travel guide, and the CAD to INR page for today's rate. Canadian dollars load on the Matrix Forex Card, so most travellers carry the card plus a small cash float.
Ontario adds 13% HST at the till, and card terminals prompt for a tip, which you work out on the pre-tax total. Merchants may add up to 2.4% to credit-card payments if they tell you first. Very few places refuse cards; carry CAD 20 to 40 a day for tips and backups.
What Toronto actually costs

A PRESTO Day Pass (CAD 13.50) pays off from the fifth trip. Since March 2026, a PRESTO card needs the full fare on it before the gate opens.

A ticket costs CAD 12.35; tapping a card, PRESTO or a phone at the platform costs CAD 9.25.
Relying on one card at the TTC gates
